109 Cans

Everyone who knows me knows how I love a good deal & love to use coupons. Well I have Jackson on board too. I am not as crazy as some coupon lovers but I do buy in bulk but I don't stockpile to the point it's pushing me out of my house. I give all the excess to the food bank. Well Jackson asked me all about the food bank & on his own he decided he wanted to collect for the food bank. I told him what a great idea and he needed to set a goal. He came up with 109 cans of food. Don't ask where that number came from because I have no idea but that is his goal.

On Friday we took his first load to the food bank. I wanted him to be able to go so he can see where the food goes & who he is helping. He had 27 cans (or anything that was donated) which totaled 41 pounds of food. (we weighed Jackson & he weighed 42 pounds) They gave him a receipt for his donation & told him thanks. So he still has a way to go to get to that 109 goal.

I am so proud of you Jackson!! You have such a huge heart!!!

100th Day of Kindergarten!!

For the 100th day of school Jackson's teacher asked everyone to make a shirt that had 100 of something on the shirt. Jackson thought about it for a week & came up with pennies. So Jackson was the Northside Money Man. I glued 100 pennies on the shirt & 100 Days on the front. I was expecting all the pennies to be gone by the end of the day but only the ones on the front were picked off. I asked him why did he pick off the money & his reason was everyone wanted a penny so he wanted to give it to them. He said he couldn't reach the ones on the back and that is why they were still glued on.

BINGO!!!

Jackson's school had their first Bingo night and of course we went. Everyone knows how much Jason & I LOVE bingo. Never win but love playing. Barb, Mike & Great Grandma also joined us so it was a great family night playing bingo. It was crazy crowed & hot in there so as the night got later Great Grandma, Barb & Mike left a little early and Jackson played Grandma's leftover cards for her. And believe it or not he won. He didn't even know it. I looked at his card to make sure he was doing ok & he had a straight line so I gave it to Jason & he yelled Bingo!! Jackson took off running to the front of the lunchroom. It was so cute. He smiled the rest of the evening until I told him that this was Grandma's win. Later in the evening they talked & Grandma gave Jackson the prize which was a pretty awesome prize. It was a portable dvd player with tv. His friend won the DS they were giving away. Pretty great night for the kids!! Thanks Grandma!!!

When I grow up....

A couple days ago Jackson & I were at the table having cereal before we got ready for school. Nathan was still asleep so this was just our time. It doesn't happen often but when it does it is great. Out of the blue Jackson tells me that when he grows up he wants to be a Monster Truck Driver. Ok, I said. He changes his mind on what he wants to be quite often so I usually just go with whatever he says. Then he said I want to be that because I will get alot of money and then I can go help people buy food that don't have any food. I held it together to not let him see me cry but man was I proud. I have taken him with me to the food bank a few times to drop food off & I explain to him why I do it. Never thinking he was really listening to me but I guess he was.

He came home from school & I told him how proud I was/am of him. He then proceeds to tell me that he wants to get 109 cans of food to take to the food bank. Why 109 I don't know. So we are on a mission to collect 109 cans of food so as he says can help 109 families. He is pretty awesome.

Sleepover

Jackson asked Brock to stay over one night after Christmas since he hadn't got to see him in quite some time. So we sent Nathan to Nanny's & Brock came over. Jackson got a fort kit for Christmas & this was the perfect time to use it. The boys were so excited. Jackson asked for chicken nuggets & mac & cheese for dinner & to watch a movie while they eat. This doesn't happen very often so we let them. Then Daddy set the fort up in Jackson's room. They thought it was so cool and was so pumped to go to bed. Score for the parents!!!

Snowed In!!

2 weeks after our white Christmas we received more snow. This time much more. Schools were closed for a week and we were stuck at the house for the entire week!! Thankfully the 1st day Jason was off work so he got to play with us in the snow. He then went to work but it had turned to ice so taking the kids out to play wasn't really an option plus Nathan hated it. And that is saying it mildly. He kept asking to go outside but once we got out there he would try to cry & say it's to cold. His little face was so red. It's ok tho because I really didn't want to be out there either. By the end of the week I was over it & really needed to find a way to get the van out. I am hoping this was the end of snow for 2011. I want Spring!!

The boys thought it was cool with all the snow in the back of the truck.

Nathan ready to go inside. He was so cold.

Happy New Year!!!

Another year ends & a new one begins. A better year at that. We did the normal for New Years. Spent the evening with wonderful friends and family. We went to the Cobb's and as usual the men stayed out back & made wings while the girls sat around and caught up. It's crazy that we all live so close to each other but hardly see each other. Between work, school, kids sports there just isn't enough time. But I am vowing to change that. At least for me. I don't usually make resolutions but I think this year I am just promising to love my family more, spend more time with the ones I love & do more for my community. Teach my kids to help people. It's all pretty simple I guess but that is my goal for 2011. So at this time next year I will be writing what a fabulous year it was & how my life is filled with so much love!!
